Trials—one of mountain biking’s most exciting disciplines
PRESS RELEASE
For immediate releaseTrials—one of mountain biking’s most exciting disciplines
Québec City, Thursday, May 27, 2010 – From August 30 to September 5, 2010, Mont-Sainte-Anne will host an international Trials competition for the first time as it welcomes the UCI Trials World Championships and the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. This cycling discipline still largely unknown to the North American public deserves a closer look.Competition at a glance
In this exciting sport, cyclists have to negotiate sections composed of different passages and jumps. Each athlete begins the competition on no points, and the rider with the fewest at the end wins. Riders are penalized every time a stray foot, pedal, strake, or wheel rim touches the ground, or a rider exceeds the time limit. Five points and you’re out.All Trials finals sanctioned by UCI consist of two rounds of six courses. Athletes have 2 minutes 30 seconds to do as many tricks in a section as possible and avoid collecting penalty points. The winner is the rider with the fewest penalty points after all the sections.
For the World Championships, Trials competitions are divided into a number of categories: Women, Junior Men, and Elite Men. Athletes can choose between the 20” or 26” wheel categories.
